Grounds Coordinator 

Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, KS is looking for hardworking, self-motivated, dedicated staff. The park is 25 acres and has another 40+ acres to expand, and we plan on growing. A new children’s zoo and safari park are among the expansion plans. Tanganyika prides itself on providing wildly different experiences for its guests and being stewards for the animals in our care. Tanganyika’s Grounds Coordinator will be responsible for working with the Chief of Maintenance for maintaining all horticulture and landscaping of Zoo grounds along with overseeing the horticulture team. This is a working manager position. The ideal candidate would provide exceptional internal and external customer service levels and manage day-to-day operations within budgeted guidelines. 

Requirements:

  • Must hold valid driver’s license
  • Experience with lawn care power tools and operating light motorized equipment and trucks
  • Management experience
  • Ability to spot and resolve challenges efficiently

  • Ability to stand or walk and be able to perform physical work outside in all weather conditions
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift 50-75 pounds when necessary

Grounds Coordinator Task and Responsibility list

  • Supervise, schedule and assign daily tasks to horticulture staff and monitor for quality and completion
  • Oversee turf management and fertilization
  • Maintain plants, shrubs, trees, lawns, parking areas, and public pathways
  • Manage weed abatement plus leaf litter from the grounds.
  • Operate tools and machinery as needed to perform duties
  • Monitors irrigation systems to ensure appropriate water quantities and distribution to plant root zones. Replaces irrigation heads, makes irrigation system repairs, and adjusts controller programs for seasonal conditions.
  • Ensures trash removal and trash, recycling and compost pick-up
  • Responsible for exterior cleaning of staff buildings, public facilities, walkways, barriers, glass windows and signage in a manner that promotes a positive public image.
  • Set up for Zoo special events and prepare spaces for parties/meetings in rental facilities
  • Provide leadership, support and professional development directly to the horticulture team, and other team members as appropriate.
  • Hire, develop, motivate and monitor horticulture team performance, including delegating appropriate responsibility and accountability while fostering a strong working relationship.
  • Establishes and monitors priorities and evaluates progress toward goals.
  • Oversee efficiencies and workflow to manage the daily upkeep and demand of Tanganyika Wildlife Park
  • Design, coordinate, and implement new landscaping for planned and existing animal exhibits and public areas.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the Chief of Maintenance

Tanganyika Wildlife Park is located on the West edge of Wichita at:
1000 S. Hawkins Ln. in Goddard, KS.

GPS Update:
Google Maps and Apple Maps are both routing people to our service entrance off 183rd St W. If you use one of these apps for directions, make sure you go North to Maple St and then head West to Hawkins Ln. The true Park entrance is at the end of that road.
